Trends in Large Scale Structure Observations and the Likelihood of Early Reionization
نویسنده
چکیده
With the imminent promise of constraints on the epoch of reionization from observations of microwave background anisotropies, the question of whether or not the standard Cold Dark Matter (CDM) model permits early reionization has been subjected to detailed investigation by various authors, with the conclusion that reionization may occur at quite high redshift. However, it is widely accepted that this model is excluded, as when normalised to the COBE observations it possesses excessive galaxy clustering on scales below tens of megaparsecs. We examine the trends of observations, rst in a fairly model independent way, and second by considering variants on the standard CDM model introduced to resolve the observational connicts. We conclude that the epoch of reionization favoured by the observational data is typically considerably later than the standard CDM model suggests, and amongst models which may t the observational data only the introduction of a cosmological constant leads to a reionization redshift close to that of standard CDM.

Close-range photogrammetry has been used in many applications in recent decades in various fields such as industry, cultural heritage, medicine and civil engineering. As an important tool for displacement measurement and deformation monitoring, close-range photogrammetry has generally been employed in industrial plants, quality control and accidents. Although close-range photogrammetric applica...
متن کاملBlack Holes from the Dark Ages: Exploring the Reionization Era and Early Structure Formation with Quasars and Gamma-ray Bursts
The cosmic reionization era, which includes formation of the first stars, galaxies, and AGN, is now one of the most active frontiers of cosmological research. We review briefly our current understanding of the early structure formation, and use the ideas about a joint formation of massive black holes (which power the early QSOs) and their host galaxies to employ high-redshift QSOs as probes of ...
متن کاملHI 21cm probes of reionization, and beyond
I review the potential for observing cosmic reionization using the HI 21cm line of neutral hydrogren. Studies include observations of the evolution of large scale structure of the IGM (density, excitation temperature, and neutral fraction), through HI 21cm emission, as well as observations of small to intermediate scale structure through absorption toward the first discrete radio sources. I sum...
متن کاملIonization fronts and their interaction with density fluctuations: implications for reionization
The propagation of cosmological ionization fronts (I-fronts) during reionization is strongly influenced by small-scale structure. Here we summarize our recent attempts to understand the effect of this small-scale structure. We present high resolution cosmological N-body simulations at high-z (z > 6) which resolve a wide range of halo mass, from minihalos to clusters of large, rare halos. We als...
متن کاملSimulating Reionization: Character and Observability
In recent years there has been considerable progress in our understanding of the nature and properties of the reionization process. In particular, the numerical simulations of this epoch have made a qualitative leap forward, reaching sufficiently large scales to derive the characteristic scales of the reionization process and thus allowing for realistic observational predictions. Our group has ...
